Jerry Seinfeld’s Mercedes-Benz 500 E Sells for a Record $357,000

Jerry Seinfeld is known for two things: being the comedian and creator of Seinfeld, and being a car collector, although his collection is almost entirely made up of Porsche models.

His enthusiasm for the brand is long-standing and well documented. Even so, Seinfeld’s garage is not exclusively filled with Porsches. There is occasional room for exceptions - and the Mercedes-Benz 500 E (W 124) is one of them, sort of. After all, the 500 E was developed and built in partnership with Porsche.

Record price at Amelia Island

Seinfeld’s Mercedes-Benz 500 E recently went under the hammer at Amelia Island in the United States, with a remarkable result: it sold for $357,000 (around €310,000), setting an all-time record for this model.

Not only did it comfortably exceed its estimate of $180,000–$240,000, but the final figure was nearly five times higher than the usual market value for an example in good condition. Its preservation certainly played a part - as one would expect from a Jerry Seinfeld car, it is immaculate - but, as the sale demonstrated, its previous ownership by the comedian also carries considerable value.

This Mercedes-Benz 500 E is a 1992 example. What is more, its 5.0 V8 producing 326 hp has barely been used over the decades, with the car covering just over 3,750 km.
