Mugen has unveiled its latest customisation package for the Honda Civic Type R and, remarkably, the Japanese performance car itself almost looks like a bargain beside the total cost of the upgrades.
Mugen Honda Civic Type R aerodynamic package
First displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show, the kit is due to reach the market in stages, as indicated on Mugen’s website.
At the front, it brings a redesigned bumper with an integrated splitter, a vented bonnet, and GT3-inspired vents above the wheel arches.
Mugen says these revisions triple the downforce compared with the standard car while cutting the overall weight by 38 kg.

The pricing is far from subtle. The splitter, side skirts and diffuser alone each cost approximately €9,400. The bonnet is priced at €7,500, the rear wing at €6,200, the complete Brembo braking system adds €6,200, and the titanium exhaust costs €4,700.
Altogether, the package exceeds €60,000-more than the Honda Civic Type R itself costs in Japan. So what does all that money deliver? Mugen demonstrates it in this video, which compares its version with the factory model.
