Porsche has not forgotten what happened a few months ago at the Nürburgring, where its record for the fastest production electric saloon was taken by the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra with a lap of 7min4.957s.
At the time, attention turned to how Porsche would respond. That answer now appears to be taking the form of the most extreme Taycan yet seen, featuring wider tracks and race-car-worthy aerodynamic hardware. Speculation is also gathering pace: could this become the first electric RS in history?
Following an earlier appearance at the Nürburgring, the so-called Taycan GT4 RS - a name yet to be confirmed - has now been “caught” during winter testing. It reveals an even more track-focused specification, with details that recall the most “aggressive” 911 of all: the GT3 RS.
Porsche Taycan GT4 RS sets its sights on the Nürburgring
The mission is clear: reclaim the crown and potentially become the first production electric saloon to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in under seven minutes. So far, only one production EV has managed that feat, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, despite its exotic nature.
Aerodynamics inspired by the 911 GT3 RS
Compared with the first cars “caught” at the Nürburgring, the changes are not particularly extensive. At the front, the prototype features a more prominent splitter, joined by fresh aerodynamic components at the outer edges, including front canards.
From the side, the standout features are the seemingly hand-finished widened wheel arches with air extractors, echoing the 911 GT3 RS, along with more pronounced side skirts designed to improve high-speed stability.
At the rear, the huge diffuser draws most of the attention, although it is not alone. This prototype also uses a prominent rear wing to generate downforce, much like the one already fitted to the Taycan Turbo GT.
More power than the Taycan Turbo GT
Unlike the earliest Nürburgring prototypes, the rear wheels are no longer covered. However, wheel covers on some test cars remain among the clues pointing to Manthey’s involvement in developing this version.
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is currently the most powerful model in the range, producing 760 kW (1033 hp) and 1240 Nm of torque. Reports suggest that this Taycan GT4 RS will deliver more. After all, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra develops 1138 kW (1548 hp) and 1770 Nm, giving it an advantage around the fast “Green Hell”. It reaches 100 km/h in 1.98 seconds and has a top speed of 350 km/h.
When will it arrive?
There is still no planned launch date, but as almost a year has passed between the first sighting and this one, it would not be surprising if this hypothetical Porsche Taycan RS were unveiled this year.
