On one side is the electric saloon of the moment, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. Its three motors produce 1,138 kW (1,548 hp) and 1,770 Nm, propelling its 2,360 kg mass to 100 km/h in under two seconds.
On the other is the Ferrari SF90 XX, the more «honed» version of the Italian supercar. It also uses three electric motors, although the overwhelming majority of its 1,030 hp comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 (797 hp and 804 Nm). It is considerably lighter, with Carwow quoting 1,660 kg - officially, we only know that it weighs 1,560 kg dry.
Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and Ferrari SF90 XX: power-to-weight comparison
Even so, the Chinese car has the more favourable power-to-weight ratio. Add the instant torque delivery, no gear changes and superior traction management on a dirty surface, and there could only be one outcome:
The SU7 Ultra delivers a stunning ballistic launch, comfortably opening up a lead of more than a car length and holding it all the way over the half-mile (804 m). The SF90 XX, however, counters with more effective braking.
Perhaps the most astonishing point is that Xiaomi offers this level of performance for less than €65,000 in China, whereas Ferrari listed the SF90 XX at nearly €800,000 in Italy - it now changes hands for €1.4 million or more.
