Kia EV4 Air Freshener Brings Back the Smell of Petrol

Moving to electric mobility can be challenging, particularly for anyone who grew up linking the enjoyment of driving with the sound of an engine - and the smell of petrol. Kia has chosen to lend nostalgic drivers a hand while, naturally, raising a few smiles.

Kia EV4 air freshener for nostalgic drivers

In Finland, Kia has introduced an air freshener shaped like a small jerrycan, carrying the evocative scent of “a workshop with a floral touch”.

According to the brand, it is intended to help new Kia EV4 owners “deal with withdrawal symptoms” caused by no longer having to visit the petrol station.

A workshop scent with floral notes

The idea came from Kia and its local importer, Astara Auto Finland, which asked perfumer Max Perttula to develop an air freshener with the “smell of the old days”.

Its fragrance combines engine oil, hot metal, jasmine and birch tar - a blend said to evoke a workshop at the end of a long working day.

Although it may sound like an April Fool’s joke, the product is genuine and available in limited numbers, exclusively for new Kia EV4 owners.

Kia also rounded off the campaign with a humorous line: “Smoke signals are a thing of the past. Try the smoke-free driving experience of the new Kia EV4.”
