Tesla is expected to begin building its more affordable Model Y, also referred to as the Model Y Standard, at its Grünheide plant in Germany within the next few weeks, according to Automobilwoche. The new version is set to reach the market before the end of the year.
Tesla Model Y Standard: early images emerge
The first online images of what could become the cheapest Tesla Model Y ever have appeared in recent days, although their authenticity has yet to be confirmed.
In the published photographs, the electric SUV does not feature the front LED light bar and has slimmer headlights resembling those fitted to the updated Model 3. Its 18-inch wheels use black plastic covers, creating a plainer look clearly intended to cut costs.
Battery and technical details
On the technical side, all indications suggest that the Model Y Standard will use a battery designed to lower manufacturing costs, though Tesla has not yet released any official specifications. For now, the company has only said that its range will be “further optimized” (even further optimised).
According to Automobilwoche, André Thierig, director of the Grünheide factory, has already shown the new variant to employees.
When will the Tesla Model Y Standard arrive?
The launch is planned for before the end of 2025, with an estimated German price of around €40,000. That would be roughly 10% below the current entry-level version, priced at €44,900.
Prices in Portugal are expected to be similar, as the Model Y is currently available there from €44,995.
