Just as AMG denotes the more performance-focused Mercedes-Benz versions and M does the same for BMW, Opel uses the GSE - Grand Sport Electric - badge to distinguish models with a stronger emphasis on performance.

The Mokka GSE was the brand’s first electric car to wear it, but the arrival of the Corsa GSE was only a matter of time. It was previewed by the extreme Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo, a prototype developed for the Gran Turismo 7 video game with as much as 800 hp.

Opel has not yet revealed its hand, with almost every detail still under wraps. Nevertheless, as the sportiest version in the range, it is expected to receive changes similar to those introduced on its Mokka GSE sibling, including a more assertive appearance and GSE-specific details.

A wolf in sheep’s clothing

One thing is certain: the production Opel Corsa GSE is unlikely to inherit much from the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo, which, as is typical of prototypes, stands out for its particularly radical solutions.

Even so, several of its features could make their way to a future sporty Corsa, or at least directly influence some of the solutions the German Stellantis brand may adopt. The sharply shaped light signature, featuring a new interpretation of the Opel Vizor, the pronounced wheel arches - visible in the official cover image released by the brand - and the rear air diffuser are all good examples.

Yellow accents are also likely to appear throughout the car, notably on the brake callipers and GSE badge, as well as inside, where everything remains undecided for now.

However, it seems likely that the German supermini will feature Alcantara sports seats with integrated head restraints, as seen in its Mokka GSE sibling.

Up to 800 hp?

Technical specifications have yet to be announced, but the Corsa GSE is expected to use the same 207 kW (280 hp) and 345 Nm of torque as the Mokka GSE and its Peugeot E-208 GTi cousin, making it the most powerful Opel Corsa ever.

Given that the current electric Corsa produces up to 136 hp, a substantial increase in output is anticipated. Its 0–100 km/h acceleration should also better the 5.9 seconds claimed for the Mokka GSE.

“The new Corsa GSE combines both worlds. It is the new fully electric range-topping version of our small car and will offer pure electric driving pleasure,” said Florian Huettl, Opel’s chief executive.

When will it arrive?

The new Opel Corsa GSE is expected to reach the market before the end of the year. Until then, further technical information is anticipated about what promises to be the sportiest version yet of the German supermini.
