Ludix turns Volkswagen Beetle and Golf models into Baja desert machines

Take SUVs out of the picture and there are not many Volkswagen models from Wolfsburg equipped to tackle tracks far from the tarmac. Some versions have featured raised suspension, extra protection and even four-wheel drive. None, however, are as extreme as the Volkswagens leaving Ludix’s workshops, which look ready for any post-apocalyptic setting.

This Japanese company specialises in taking well-mannered Volkswagens such as the Beetle and Golf and turning them into desert-ready machines. Its inspiration? The Baja spirit, of course.

Volkswagen Baja conversions by Ludix

The formula begins with strengthened suspension and generous ground clearance. It then adds forged wheels wrapped in more adventure-focused tyres. Matte paint or vinyl wrap, protective bars, wheel-arch extensions, roofs packed with lights and even additional luggage carriers complete the package.

Among its projects is one of the latest-generation Beetles, a conversion that is even more convincing than Volkswagen’s own “Dune”.

Volkswagen Golf VII with 70 mm raised suspension

The Volkswagen Golf VII takes things a step further. Its suspension is raised by 70 mm, it wears all-terrain tyres and its bumpers are left unpainted. The outcome is more adventurous than any Tiguan.

Complete models, conversion kits and individual components

The best part is that Ludix sells everything required for these Volkswagens: complete models, conversion kits and a broad range of individual components. For now, it only works with Volkswagen, although the company intends to add brands such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz and even Porsche to its catalogue.
