Omoda, the Chinese brand owned by automotive giant Chery Automobile, entered the Portuguese market at the end of last year through the JAP Group, bringing the Omoda 5 and Omoda 9 SUVs.
Initially launched exclusively as an electric model, the Omoda 5 now gains a conventional hybrid variant that does not require plugging in. Called the Omoda 5 SHS-H, it is now priced in Portugal from €29,900 - €5,000 less than the fully electric version.
Omoda 5 SHS-H hybrid powertrain
The key differences between the two versions lie beneath the bonnet. The new Omoda 5 SHS-H uses what the manufacturer calls the Super Hybrid System, pairing a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine - producing 143 hp (105 kW) and 215 Nm - with two electric motors powered by a compact 1.83 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.
According to Omoda, the combustion engine achieves 44.5% efficiency, “allowing a balanced combination of performance and running-cost economy”, the company said. In practical terms, its claimed fuel consumption is 5.3 l/100 km.
Two trim levels
The Omoda 5 SHS-H is offered in two trim levels: Comfort and Premium. The entry-level version comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, dual 12.3-inch screens, automatic climate control, a rear-view camera and keyless entry.
Choosing the range-topping Premium trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, 360-degree cameras, a panoramic roof, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, a powered tailgate, ambient lighting and 50W wireless charging. The front seats also gain ventilation.
For safety, the model features 20 driver-assistance systems, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and blind-spot detection.
How much does it cost?
As mentioned above, the Omoda 5 SHS-H is available in Portugal from €29,900. Discover the prices across the full range:
