Sound the sirens and fire up the beacons... once more: Porsche has launched yet another special-edition 911. After all the limited-run Porsches that came before it, is there even enough fuel remaining for the beacons? Thankfully, this one is a hybrid, so it should use slightly less.

Porsche 911 Spirit 70 heritage design

Meet the Porsche 911 Spirit 70, the third 911 produced under Porsche’s ‘Heritage Design strategy’. It follows the 2020 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, which paid tribute to the 1950s and early 1960s, and 2022’s second ducktailed 911 Sport Classic, celebrating the 1960s and early 1970s. As an aside, the car also signals Porsche’s plans to broaden its personalisation offering further, as the Exclusive Manufaktur division’s capacity is due to increase ‘significantly’.

1970s-inspired Porsche 911 Spirit 70 styling

Returning to the car itself, production is capped at 1,500 units and it is offered exclusively as a convertible. The Spirit 70 honours the - unsurprisingly - 1970s and early 1980s, while using the current 992.2 Carrera GTS Cabriolet as its basis. Yes, it is the model fitted with Yorkshire’s favourite T-Hybrid system, producing 534bhp and 450lb ft of torque.

The Spirit 70 retains the standard mechanical package: a PDK gearbox, the clever electric turbocharger and a 3.6-litre flat-six. Buyers can, however, choose the new ‘Olive Neo’ body colour, a distinctive green paired with ‘Bronzite’ detailing. That second shade appears on the Fuchs-inspired wheels and sections of both bumpers. The fabric roof is black, matching the particularly striking racing-stripe design across the bonnet and the door roundels.

At the front sits a reproduction of the 1963 Porsche crest, while the remaining badges are finished in gold. Arguably the standout part of this special edition is its cabin. Porsche’s celebrated Pasha motif returns, with its flowing chequered-flag-effect material used on the seats, door trims, part of the dashboard, and even within the glovebox and front boot.

Black leather features extensively elsewhere, contrasted by Olive Neo stitching, while the instrument display receives retro-coloured dial graphics.

Naturally, being a Porsche special edition, it is far from inexpensive. In the UK, a regular 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet starts from £147,900, whereas the limited-production Spirit 70 costs from £187,700. Ouch.

That figure also excludes the matching 911 Spirit 70 watch. Available solely to car buyers, it has its individual edition number engraved on the rear, but requires another £12,000. No, that is not a typo.
