Kia is continuing to accelerate its electric-car push. Having introduced the EV3, it has now unveiled both the EV4 and the Concept EV2, which will form the basis for the brand’s smallest and most affordable electric model.

Due to arrive in 2026, this model will target the B-SUV segment, taking on rivals such as the BYD Atto 2 and its Hyundai Inster ‘cousin’.

We saw it first-hand in Tarragona, Spain, where we learned the initial details of a model expected to cost less than €30,000. Here is what we found out:

A shared family look

Although it remains a prototype, Kia says the production EV2 will change little, if at all. Naturally, some of the more extravagant concept-car features will not make production; the rear-hinged doors are one such example.

In broad terms, however, it is very close to the finished car, as the EV2 continues the family design language Kia has been developing across its electric line-up.

Its vertical light signature, sealed front end and clean surfacing make that clear immediately. Other details strengthen its character, including the raised stance, pronounced wheel arches and geometric detailing around the windows and wheel-arch surrounds.

Kia Concept EV2: design meets practicality

Inside, the Concept EV2 makes an immediate impression with its highly futuristic, minimalist design. It has a flat floor and both front and rear bench seats, though these are features we are unlikely to see in the production model.

Yet, while the styling is important, practicality takes priority. That is why the prototype has no central pillar and uses rear-hinged rear doors, two measures designed to make getting into the cabin easier.

The Concept EV2’s interior also includes sliding dividers in the boot to organise luggage, removable triangular speakers that can be used inside or outside the vehicle, and a digital messaging system capable of displaying text on the windows.

What should we expect?

Naturally, many of these solutions will be left behind before production. Even so, the EV2 will feature several sustainable materials in the cabin, over-the-air updates and bidirectional charging technology (V2L).

Kia has disclosed no technical specifications. Its only confirmation is that, contrary to earlier expectations, the EV2 will not share its platform with its Hyundai Inster ‘cousin’, which we have already had the opportunity to test on video:

The future Kia EV2 will instead use E-GMP, Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated electric-vehicle platform. It currently underpins Kia’s EV family, from the EV3 through to the much larger EV9.

When will it arrive and how much will it cost?

The new Kia EV2 will launch in the first quarter of 2026, with Europe set to be the first market to receive it. Its price is expected to remain below €30,000.
