SAIC Z7 looks remarkably like the Porsche Taycan

At first glance, it would be easy to mistake it for a Porsche Taycan, yet this model was not created in Stuttgart. It comes from China and is called the SAIC Z7.

SAIC Z7 and Z7T closely resemble the Porsche Taycan

Almost everything is strikingly similar to Porsche’s electric car: the proportions, dimensions and even several styling details. That applies both to the saloon and to the newly revealed Z7T estate, which appears to be virtually identical to the Taycan Sport Turismo.

The Z7/Z7T is the result of a partnership between SAIC and Huawei within the HIMA technology ecosystem, created to develop next-generation intelligent cars. The technology giant supplies the technology - the HarmonyOS operating system, the ADS autonomous driving system and components such as the LiDAR unit visible on the roof - while SAIC is responsible for development and production.

Detailed specifications will be announced shortly, although it is already known that there will be rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, along with two battery options: 80 kWh and 100 kWh.

SAIC Z7 pricing

Where SAIC has not copied Porsche is on price. The new SAIC Z7 and Z7T are expected to be priced between 250,000 and 350,000 yuan, equivalent to roughly €32,000 to €45,000. By comparison, the cheapest Porsche Taycan in China starts at just over 900,000 yuan, or around €114,000.
