Nissan has unveiled the new generations of the Micra, Leaf and Juke at the same time - three well-known names with a long history at the brand. They will arrive between this year and next, with one shared feature: they will be electric-only.
It is a display of Nissan’s resilience, contrasting with the difficult period it has faced in recent months and continues to face. The new chief executive has not yet commented on the next steps for pulling the company out of its current crisis.
Nissan Micra 2025 arrives first
The new Nissan Micra will be the first to arrive, later this year. It had long been known that it would share its platform and electric powertrain with the Renault 5, but the two released images show that the similarities will go considerably further.
Although it has a distinctive front end, it is impossible to look at the side of the 2025 Micra without recognising the Renault 5’s silhouette. It even shares details such as the trim running around the upper window line and the split C-pillar. No interior images have been released.
What we know so far
Beyond the images, Nissan has revealed very little about the model, apart from the elements it will share with the R5: the AmpR Small platform and batteries with the same capacities, at 40 kWh and 52 kWh. The Japanese manufacturer claims a maximum range expected to exceed 400 km with the larger battery.
Powertrain and production of the Nissan Micra
It remains to be confirmed whether the 2025 Micra’s motors will also match the Renault 5 in power output, although that appears highly likely. Buyers should therefore expect outputs of 95 cv, 120 cv and 150 cv.
A specific date for its full unveiling has not yet been announced, but with sales scheduled to begin this year, it should not be far away.
The new-generation Micra was designed at the Nissan Design Europe centre in London, United Kingdom, and will be built alongside the Renault 5 at the Ampere ElectriCity factory in Douai, France.
