Unveiled a few months ago, the Kia EV6 is now arriving on the Portuguese market, representing a new chapter for the South Korean brand.

As Kia’s first exclusively electric model - both the e-Niro and e-Soul have combustion-engined “siblings” - the EV6 is based on E-GMP, the Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated electric vehicle platform, which made its debut in the Hyundai IONIQ 5.

Available in three trims in Portugal - Air, GT-Line and GT - the Kia EV6 has now been tested by Diogo Teixeira in another video on our YouTube channel. This time, however, the “mission” was different: as well as introducing us to the new EV6, Diogo set out to establish whether Kia’s claimed consumption figures can be achieved in the “real world”.

Kia EV6 real-world consumption test

To find out, Diogo drove the Kia EV6 GT-Line over a 100 km route combining urban roads and motorway driving. This version features a 229 hp electric motor, rear-wheel drive and a 77.4 kWh battery, which theoretically provides 475 km of range on the WLTP cycle. But can it actually deliver that? Watch the video to find out:

Kia EV6 figures and versions

Alongside the rear-wheel-drive GT-Line with 229 hp and a 77.4 kWh battery, the EV6 is offered in two further variants. The entry-level Air produces 170 hp and uses a 58 kWh battery which, according to Kia, delivers up to 400 km of range. Prices for this version start at 43,950 euros.

Above the GT-Line driven by Diogo, which starts from 49,950 euros, sits the only Kia EV6 offered in Portugal with all-wheel drive. This is the Kia EV6 GT, which delivers an impressive 585 hp and 740 Nm from its two electric motors.

Kia EV6 GT performance and charging

Available from 64,950 euros, the Kia EV6 GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, reaches a top speed of 260 km/h and claims a range of up to 510 km. Unlike the Air and GT-Line versions, which are already on sale, the EV6 GT was only expected to reach the Portuguese market towards the end of the first half of 2022.

In terms of charging, the EV6 supports both 800 V and 400 V charging. Under the most favourable conditions, using its maximum permitted DC charging output of 239 kW, the EV6 can replenish 80% of its battery in only 18 minutes and add 100 km of range in under five minutes - in the rear-wheel-drive model fitted with the 77.4 kWh battery.
