Ferrari LaFerrari joins the Museu do Caramulo permanent collection

The ‘our’ Museu do Caramulo has strengthened its permanent collection with one of Ferrari’s most exclusive and technologically advanced cars ever built: the LaFerrari. Just 499 examples of this supercar were made in coupé form between 2013 and 2016. Ferrari also produced a roadster version, named the Aperta, limited to 210 units.

As if that were not distinctive enough, the LaFerrari made history for the Maranello manufacturer as its first supercar to feature a Formula 1-derived hybrid system.

Known as HY-KERS, it combined two electric motors with the combustion engine to boost performance. Together, they delivered a maximum output of 963 horsepower at 9,250 rpm.

The result was extraordinary performance from the LaFerrari: it could reach 100 km/h in under three seconds and pass 200 km/h in almost seven seconds. Its top speed? More than 350 km/h.

This physical embodiment of Maranello engineering extended well beyond its powertrain. It also featured active aerodynamics and a carbon-fibre chassis, engineered to provide rigidity, near-perfect weight distribution and handling that came remarkably close to that of competition models.

One of the 499 Ferrari LaFerrari examples will now join the Museu do Caramulo’s permanent collection, which already features numerous classic cars and supercars.

For Ferrari enthusiasts, fans of automotive engineering and anyone with a broader interest in cars, this provides an excellent reason to return to the Museu do Caramulo. Until then, you can already hear it in this video.

The displayed example becomes part of one of the country’s most comprehensive collections, encompassing art, vintage toys, and dozens of cars and motorcycles. According to the museum’s statement, “the arrival of the LaFerrari is part of this broad curatorial vision, which is also driven by a passion for the world of motoring.”
