There was little delay in learning the Portuguese prices for the new-generation Mercedes-Benz GLB. Unveiled only a few days ago, the new GLB begins its life solely as an electric model, replacing the EQB. The mild-hybrid petrol version will arrive later, alongside further electric variants, including an entry-level model.
Order books opened today, 11 December, with prices starting at €57,500 for the GLB 250+ and rising to €65,450 for the GLB 350 4MATIC.
Mercedes-Benz GLB electric powertrains and range
The technical specifications of the two versions closely mirror those of the new CLA, which is unsurprising given that the new GLB shares its MMA platform and powertrain with that model.
The GLB 250+ uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 200 kW (272 hp) and 335 Nm of torque, paired with an 85 kWh usable-capacity battery. This delivers a range of up to 631 km on the combined WLTP cycle.
Meanwhile, the GLB 300 4MATIC gains a front motor, providing all-wheel drive along with higher power and torque outputs: 260 kW (354 hp) and 515 Nm. Its battery retains the same 85 kWh capacity, allowing up to 614 km of range on the combined WLTP cycle.
In both cases, the 800 V electrical architecture can add around 260 km of range in just 10 minutes when connected to a rapid DC charger.
Room for seven
Inside, the immediate highlight is the new MBUX Superscreen: three side-by-side displays measuring 10.25 inches, 14 inches and 14 inches, with the final screen optional. Extending across the full width of the dashboard, it is virtually identical to the system used in the CLA.
It may appear daunting at first, but Mercedes-Benz says its system has become more intuitive and easier to use every day. That is something we were already able to confirm when testing the new CLA. Read, or revisit:
As with its predecessor, the new Mercedes-Benz GLB has an extra advantage over other offerings in the segment: it can carry up to seven occupants thanks to a third row of seats. Mercedes does point out, however, that this row is intended only for people up to 1.71 m tall.
Another highlight of the new generation is its front boot, or frunk, which is among the largest on the market at 127 litres. The conventional rear boot is also generously sized, offering 540 litres in the five-seat version and 480 litres in the seven-seat model. With the seats folded, these capacities increase to 1,725 litres and 1,605 litres respectively.
Stars everywhere
Among the notable features offered by the new Mercedes-Benz GLB is the standard panoramic roof, which can optionally be specified with adjustable transparency through Sky Control and 158 illuminated stars.
Continuing the illuminated-star theme, buyers can also choose 97 backlit stars, including the brand emblem, for the SUV's front panel, or grille. Wheel sizes extend to 20 inches, while adaptive suspension can also be fitted as standard with the 20-inch wheels, along with Multibeam LED headlamps. As you may already have guessed, their daytime running lights are star-shaped.
As mentioned, orders for the new electric Mercedes-Benz GLB opened today.
