As in the 2021 edition, the main attraction at the 2022 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, USA, is an all-electric Wrangler - specifically the evolved version of the prototype unveiled last year, called the Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0.
In this “2.0” form, the Wrangler Magneto has gained considerably more power, now producing 625 hp and 1152 Nm, a substantial increase over the 289 hp and 370 Nm claimed for last year’s prototype. Its battery retains a 70 kWh capacity and 800 V technology.
Interestingly, despite being fully electric, the Wrangler Magneto 2.0 features a six-speed manual gearbox that channels its immense torque to all four wheels.
Fitted with 40-inch wheels - the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre - and Dynatrac differentials, this Wrangler makes no secret of the fact that off-road terrain is where it feels most at home. Even so, it claims a 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) time of just 2s.
Based on the three-door version of the American off-roader, the Wrangler Magneto 2.0 has nevertheless had its wheelbase extended by 30 cm - to better house the components of its drivetrain - while ground clearance has increased by around 7 cm.
Although the Wrangler Magneto 2.0 will attract most of the attention, Jeep has, in keeping with tradition, prepared six further prototypes for the Moab desert, several of them electrified as well.
Jeep ’41 Concept
While the Wrangler Magneto 2.0 looks towards Jeep’s future, the Jeep ’41 Concept takes the American brand straight back to its origins.
Based on the Wrangler 4xe, this prototype wears paintwork matching that used on the original 1941 Willys models. It also features 35-inch wheels, steel rims and a winch, and sits around 5 cm higher than the model on which it is based.
Jeep Rubicon 20th Anniversary Concept
As its name suggests, the Jeep Rubicon 20th Anniversary Concept marks 20 years since the launch of the first Wrangler Rubicon.
Powered by the same 6.4 V8 used in the Wrangler 492 and fitted with an active exhaust, this prototype combines grey paintwork with a red interior. Its 17-inch Mopar rims are shod with 37-inch tyres, while it gains 5 centimetres of extra ground clearance as well as the “essential” protection for mechanical components.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe Concept
The Wrangler is not the only basis for the prototypes Jeep is taking to the 2022 Easter Jeep Safari, as the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe Concept clearly demonstrates.
Compared with other Grand Cherokee 4xe models, this prototype has a bespoke interior, 20-inch wheels fitted with 33-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, more durable paintwork and dedicated roof bars.
Jeep Bob Concept
Like the Grand Cherokee, the Gladiator pick-up has also provided the foundation for several prototypes. In the case of the intriguingly named Jeep Bob Concept, the American pick-up’s load bed has been “cut”, with its name derived from “bobbing”, the US term used to describe this very procedure.
Pick-up beds are cut to improve off-road angles, and in the Bob’s case this is further aided by a bespoke bumper that provides a greater approach angle.
With 20-inch rims and 40-inch tyres, its wheel arches have also been cut. Powered by a 3.0 V6 Diesel, this prototype further features a canvas roof, additional lights and numerous upgrades intended to make it unstoppable off road: Dynatrac axles, bespoke suspension lifted by nearly 8 cm, new dampers and new suspension springs.
Jeep Performance Parts D-Coder Concept
Also based on the Gladiator, the Jeep Performance Parts D-Coder Concept serves as a “showcase” for the “Jeep Performance Parts by Mopar” catalogue.
Most notably, each accessory - 35 in total - is finished in “Maraschino Red” and even carries a QR code so interested customers can locate it in the catalogue.
Jeep Performance Parts Birdcage Concept
Also prepared by “Jeep Performance Parts by Mopar”, this prototype stands out for dispensing with side windows, a windscreen and a roof.
With a more adventurous appearance and auxiliary lights, the prototype also includes a winch, 37-inch tyres, Fox dampers and an additional 5 centimetres of ground clearance.
The others
Alongside the prototypes created especially for the 2022 Easter Jeep Safari, Jeep will also bring several concepts first revealed at the 2021 SEMA show.
These will include the seven-seat Wrangler Overlook Concept, the Wrangler 4xe SEMA Concept and the Kaiser Jeep M725.
