We have already driven the Mitsubishi ASX in Málaga, Spain, and it is due to arrive on the Portuguese market shortly, in March.
The new generation of the Japanese brand’s SUV will be offered in three trim levels: Inform, Invite and Intense.
All versions come with a generous standard equipment specification. Cruise control, for instance, is fitted from the entry-level model onwards - with adaptive cruise control on the range-topping version - along with LED headlamps and an infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Mitsubishi ASX engines
The ASX range will comprise three powertrains. The entry-level option is a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 90 hp and 160 Nm of torque.
It is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and is available exclusively in Inform and Invite trims.
Above it sits a turbocharged 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol unit, combined with a 48 V mild-hybrid system. Developing 160 hp and 270 Nm, it is the most powerful engine in the line-up and comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Unlike the 1.0-litre engine, this powertrain is offered only in the flagship Intense trim.
The Intense specification is also the sole trim available for the Mitsubishi ASX PHEV, the plug-in hybrid variant whose powertrain is already familiar from the Renault Captur E-TECH.
It combines a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 91 hp, a 49 kW (67 hp) electric motor, and a 25 kW (34 hp) generator motor. Together, they deliver a maximum combined output of 160 hp.
A 10.5 kWh battery powers the electric system, enabling the ASX PHEV to cover up to 49 km in electric mode on the combined WLTP cycle. This figure rises to 63 km in urban driving.
Mitsubishi ASX prices
The 1.0 Inform is the most affordable Mitsubishi ASX, priced at €24,590. However, Mitsubishi expects the 1.0 Invite, which costs an additional €700, to be the best-selling version:
- ASX 1.0 Inform - €24,590;
- ASX 1.0 Invite - €25,290;
- ASX 1.3 mild-hybrid Intense - €29,990.
The private-buyer price of the ASX PHEV has not yet been announced, although its business price has been confirmed.
Mitsubishi has unveiled an ASX PHEV campaign under which it can be purchased for €27,500 + VAT, a figure that will allow it to fall within the first autonomous taxation band.
Although it has already announced the prices, Mitsubishi has noted that they may change before the new ASX reaches the market.
Whichever version is selected, the ASX is covered by a five-year or 100,000 km warranty. The plug-in hybrid version also benefits from an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty.
