The Nissan Qashqai is set for an update, with its arrival in Portugal already scheduled. Its debut is planned for the final quarter of this year, although the key development is not the launch date.
The compact SUV will introduce the third generation of the e-Power hybrid system, which Nissan says is more efficient, more powerful and quieter.
Unlike other non-plug-in hybrids, this system operates like a fully electric vehicle powered by petrol: the electric motor always drives the car, while the petrol engine works solely as a generator and is not connected to the wheels.
Greater range, lower consumption
With the latest e-Power system, the 2026 Qashqai claims lower fuel consumption and emissions than the model currently on sale. Fuel consumption has fallen by 0.6 litres per 100 km, to 4.5 l/100 km, while emissions have dropped by 14 g/km to 102 g/km (down 12%).
These improvements are chiefly the result of the new combustion engine, which acts as the generator and is now considerably more efficient. Its 42% thermal efficiency is currently the highest of any petrol engine on sale. It retains the same 1.5-litre, turbocharged three-cylinder layout, but Nissan says the engine is entirely new. The current model's complex variable-compression-ratio system has been dropped in favour of the STARC combustion concept.
The improved efficiency is accompanied by stronger performance. The new “5-in-1” electric system, which combines the electric motor, inverter, reduction gearbox and other components, now produces 151 kW (205 hp) - 15 hp more than before - while Sport mode can provide an additional 10 kW (14 hp). The 2.1 kWh battery remains unchanged, and driving range could reach 1,200 km.
Maintenance intervals have also been extended, rising from 15,000 km to 20,000 km.
Further changes
The upgrades extend beyond the powertrain. The 2026 Nissan Qashqai receives a significant technology boost, including an updated ProPILOT driver-assistance system that now offers improved performance on multi-lane motorways.
The infotainment system will be Google-based, providing direct access to Google Maps, Assistant, with voice commands, and the Play Store. Another addition is Nissan Trip Stories, a feature that enables journeys to be recorded and shared through the NissanConnect Services app.
When will it arrive?
As mentioned above, the new Nissan Qashqai will arrive in Portugal in the final quarter of 2025. Prices have not yet been announced.
