Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: 770 hp and 10.7 seconds over the quarter-mile

With 770 hp and 847 Nm drawn from its colossal 5,200 cm³ supercharged V8, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 ranks among the finest muscle cars money can buy - except in Europe, where it will not be sold.

Ford has now revealed the Mustang Shelby GT500’s acceleration figures, following confirmation of its 0–160 km/h–0 time of 10.6 seconds. It reaches 96 km/h (60 mph) from rest in just 3.3 seconds, while the quarter-mile - roughly 400 m - takes 10.7 seconds.

For comparison, the previous GT500 needed 3.5 seconds and 11.8 seconds respectively. The Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye completes 0–96 km/h in 3.5 seconds; within the Dodge range, only the “monstrous” Challenger SRT Demon, designed with drag strips in mind, is quicker, recording 2.3 seconds from 0–96 km/h and 9.65 seconds over the quarter-mile.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 carbon-fibre wheels

The Carbon Fiber Track equipment pack, priced at $18,500 - around €16,600 - includes carbon-fibre wheels. Measuring 20 inches, they are made by the small Australian firm Carbon Revolution, which also produces the wheels for the Shelby GT350, Ford GT and Ferrari 488 Pista.

Advanced wheels shared with Ferrari

Developed continuously over time, the wheels feature a gloss finish rather than the painted treatment used on the Shelby GT350. Although they measure 20 inches instead of the 19-inch wheels fitted to the Shelby GT350, their weight remains the same at 7.7 kg.
