After a particularly challenging year for Tesla - which is only now beginning to show signs of recovery - the American brand is strengthening its product offensive with updates to its models. Following the launch of the substantially revised Model Y and the debut of its more affordable version, the updated Model S and Model X are now arriving.

Both are already available to order in Portugal. Prices start at €109,990 for the Model S and €114,990 for the Model X.

Since their respective launches - in 2012 for the Model S and 2015 for the Model X - Tesla has continually introduced improvements to these models. The most extensive overhaul came in 2021, when the Plaid versions were introduced with a new powertrain, chassis and redesigned interior.

What has changed?

With this latest update, the American manufacturer is focusing on improved efficiency, greater comfort and reduced cabin noise. The interior is now better insulated through the use of new acoustic materials in both the chassis and the cabin.

Externally, both models gain new wheel designs - 19-inch and 21-inch options for the Model S, and 20-inch and 22-inch options for the Model X - while their air suspension has also been revised. The SUV additionally receives a roomier third row, with more shoulder room.

Greater efficiency for the Tesla Model S and Model X

Tesla’s two models have consequently become more efficient, gaining range without any change to maximum power output. Naturally, the Plaid versions remain the most extreme.

The Model S Plaid has also gained upgrades designed to improve stability at higher speeds. Its front and rear sections feature a revised design, now incorporating a carbon-fibre spoiler and an optimised diffuser to improve airflow and stability.

Tesla has also added new stabilising components and carbon-sleeved rotors to deliver a more linear power curve. In practice, these changes provide more precise handling and more consistent, fatigue-resistant performance, particularly during more “demanding” use.

Despite the efficiency gains, the powertrains remain unchanged in both the Model S and Model X. The revisions are focused primarily on software management and energy optimisation, enabling range improvements without mechanical changes.

Both models also include unlimited Supercharger charging and free Premium Connectivity for the first owner for as long as they retain the vehicle.

When will they arrive?

As mentioned above, both models can already be ordered in Portugal, with prices starting from €109,990 for the Model S and €114,990 for the Model X. The first customer deliveries will begin next month.
