The Peugeot 308 needs little introduction. Year after year, it has strengthened its status as one of Portugal’s favourite cars and, for 2026, arrives with even stronger credentials to retain its undisputed leadership of the segment in Portugal.

Offered as both a hatchback and the versatile SW estate, its enduring success comes from a formula that pairs distinctive styling with a breadth of powertrain choice that few rivals can match.

There is an option for every preference and requirement, from Diesel to fully electric, including a 48 V mild-hybrid and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), with prices starting from 28 285 euros. This video provides a detailed look at the car in one of its most appealing specifications: the e-308 GT.

Peugeot DNA remains clearly defined

The first impression is shaped by styling that is both more assertive and more sophisticated than ever. This latest version is immediately distinguishable from its predecessor, largely because the front end has undergone a major visual transformation.

The lighting now adopts a split design, with a light signature running across the full width of the front end to give it an even stronger road presence. Taking centre stage is the new lion-brand emblem, now backlit: a striking detail that reinforces this model’s more premium positioning.

In GT specification, this character is further highlighted by new 18-inch wheels fitted with low-profile tyres, enhancing its visual dynamism without sacrificing the ride comfort expected from a family car of the “French school”.

No compromises

Peugeot’s focus on the 308’s cabin began before this generation entered development. The French brand’s engineers studied materials and usage trends to understand how the interior could age well without showing signs of wear.

The result is a robust, well-assembled cabin featuring materials capable of withstanding more intensive use. It is therefore unsurprising that the updates are subtle: the fundamental formula remains unchanged, although there is a clear effort to raise the overall perceived quality.

Indeed, the materials used are on a par with those found in offerings from brands positioned more traditionally as premium, delivering an excellent balance of comfort and minimalism without undermining practicality.

i-Cockpit at the heart of the driving experience

The i-Cockpit remains the centrepiece, featuring a 10-inch digital instrument display with a 3D effect, unprecedented in the segment. However, it still retains physical controls on the steering wheel and beneath the central infotainment display for essential functions such as adjusting volume, activating the hazard lights and controlling the climate system.

This arrangement is complemented by the familiar digital i-Toggles controls, which drivers can personalise and configure to show the functions they use most often, ensuring they are always within easy reach.

Depending on the chosen trim level, the 308’s cabin can take on a more or less sporting character. GT versions offer the most radical interpretation, with Adamite green stitching on the steering wheel, seats and dashboard, adding a more aggressive edge to a model that never gives up its versatility.

Space tailored to your needs

Whichever body style or powertrain is selected, the 308 is designed to carry four adults in comfort. Parents needing to fit one or two child seats in the rear will have no difficulty, either.

What does change is boot capacity, which increases considerably when choosing the SW estate. In the hatchback, luggage space ranges from 314 litres to 412 litres, with the PHEV versions most affected; in the SW, it varies from 467 litres to 599 litres.

These are notably different figures for notably different needs. If space is not high on your priority list, the hatchback makes sense. But if you fall asleep thinking about the Tetris-like challenge of packing the children’s and dog’s belongings, there is only one choice: opt for the estate.

Designed for driving and being driven

Alongside the refinement of the overall package, the Peugeot 308 draws on a comprehensive suite of technology and safety equipment to make every journey more pleasant.

From adaptive cruise control and emergency braking to lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot detection and rear traffic alert, nothing has been overlooked.

Furthermore, as with other models from the brand, the 308 now offers ChatGPT integration. It can help compile a shopping list for the next supermarket trip or make choosing a restaurant easier.

A commitment to variety

Under the bonnet, Peugeot continues its strategic commitment to diversity, refusing to restrict the customer’s choices. As a result, the 308 remains a benchmark for powertrain versatility, with a solution for every requirement and usage profile.

The range begins with a Diesel engine, although the main drive comes from electrification, through three distinct powertrains: 48 V mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric.

The Peugeot 308 BlueHDi, powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder 130 hp engine, is the most suitable option for those who cover high annual mileages and value greater range. Paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, it suits customers who frequently undertake long journeys, particularly on motorways.

Peugeot 308 powertrain choices for every need

The 48 V mild-hybrid versions represent the entry point to electrification and have a tangible effect on consumption, especially in urban driving. This self-charging system combines a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a 29 hp electric motor and a 0.89 kWh battery.

The Peugeot 308 PHEV, meanwhile, combines a 1.6-litre 150 hp engine with a 125 hp electric motor and follows a different approach, as it can be charged and provides an electric range of up to 86 km. Thanks to its 17.2 kWh battery, many drivers can complete their daily journeys without using a single drop of fuel.

At the top of the 308 range sits the fully electric version, with 156 hp. It can travel up to 450 km on a single charge thanks to its 58.4 kWh battery, which supports charging at up to 11 kW using alternating current (AC) and 100 kW using direct current (DC).

Making its first appearance in the range, the Peugeot e-308 now gains V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) capability, allowing external electrical equipment to be powered with output of up to 3.5 kW.

These four distinct solutions make it possible to tailor this Peugeot 308 to virtually every type of use. Naturally, it is worth remembering that both the PHEV and fully electric versions have tax advantages that make them obvious choices for business customers. For private buyers, the other options in the range may make more sense depending on their usage.
